Damar Hamlin’s ‘trending positive’ but had to be resurrected TWICE

Damar Hamlin is “showing positive rebound” after suffering cardiac arrest Monday night while playing for the Buffalo Bills and requiring two CPRs.

Hamlin’s uncle, Dorrian Glenn, told CNN: “His heart had failed so they had to resuscitate him twice. They revived him in the field before taking him to the hospital and then they revived him a second time when they took him to the hospital.

“They sedated him just to give him a better chance to just keep healing better. We just take it day by day. It appears to be trending positively up.”

Glenn added that Hamlin, who is being treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, has some lung damage and is breathing on a ventilator.

“I’m just glad he’s still alive and fighting and trying to get better and recover,” he said.

“I’m not a screamer, but I’ve never cried so much in my life. Just to know that my nephew basically died in the field and they brought him back to life.

“Without them (the medical staff) my nephew probably wouldn’t be here.”

Glenn said Hamlin is “turned on his stomach” in the hospital to allow blood to flow to his lungs.

Hamin’s Bills team tweeted Tuesday night, “We continue to send you all our love, prayers and support, Damar.”

Hamlin collapsed on the field in the first quarter of Monday’s game. He had just stood up after attacking opponent Tee Higgins before falling backwards and lying motionless on the ground.

After his heartbeat was restored on the pitch as stunned players from both teams cried, prayed and hugged, Hamlin was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where he was recorded in critical condition. His mother was at the game and accompanied Hamlin to the hospital – both of his parents are at his bedside.

In a statement earlier Tuesday, the family also paid tribute to the hospital’s first responders and health professionals who cared for Hamlin, as well as the Bengals and Bills organizations.

“Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us,” Hamlin’s family wrote. “Please keep Damar in your prayers. We will post updates as soon as we have them.’

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Hamlin’s rep Jordon Rooney said: “We don’t have any specific updates at this time, last night they did CPR in the field and got his vitals in a stable position.

“I’m not sure of the exact medical term, but he’s sedated. He is intubated; I’m not sure if that’s the same as an induced coma.

“There hasn’t been a major update from that point on, they’re really just monitoring him and seeing how he’s doing and how best to recover.

“It was a surprise for us, we didn’t expect that. He is healthy and fit.”

He added that Hamlin and his family are “symbols of strength.”

“It wasn’t him who fell, that was alarming, but it was everyone’s reaction. Seeing how everyone reacted, that was the scariest part, because what do they see that we can’t see?

Higgins – the player who was attacked on the pitch during the incident – cited the well wishes sent to Hamlin on Twitter, writing: “My prayers and thoughts go out to @HamlinIslandthe Hamlin Family. I pray you make it through, brother. Love.’

On the game, the 6-foot, 200-pound Hamlin was injured, Higgins leading with his right shoulder that hit the defensive back in the chest. Hamlin, who earns a base salary of $825,000, then wrapped his arms around Higgins’ shoulders and helmet to pull him down.

Hamlin stood up quickly, seemed to be adjusting his face mask with his right hand, then fell back about three seconds later and lay motionless.

Hamlin was surrounded by players from both sides and treated for 16 minutes before being immobilized and taken off the field. As medical personnel gathered around Hamlin, his playing uniform was cut off.

Players from both teams were visibly stunned by what had happened and many cried on the field.

Many players hugged, including quarterbacks Buffalo’s Josh Allen and Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow. The game was postponed by the NFL.
