Daniel Ricciardo has secured a 13th place on the grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix with his ailing AlphaTauri car, while the Australian has shown promising signs on his return to Formula 1.
Ricciardo, 34, is looking to prove he still has what it takes to perform at his best after signing a short-term deal with Red Bull’s junior squad this month, replacing the disappointing Nyck De Vries.
With AlphaTauri finishing last in the constructors’ championship and not making it out of Q1 in the last four races, Ricciardo put in a performance in his first qualifying session and put his car in P13 for Sunday’s race.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Oscar Piastri – who replaced Ricciardo at McLaren last year – has arrived in the third quarter as he continued his good form after finishing fourth at the British Grand Prix.
