David Moyes praises Said Benrahma after scoring the winning goal against his former club Brentford

David Moyes praises Said Benrahma after scoring FA Cup winner against his former club Brentford… as West Ham boss insists he is ‘thrilled’ to retaliate at Thomas Frank’s side

David Moyes hopes Said Benrahma’s sensational goal against his former club Brentford will prove the magic moment West Ham needed to get their season back on track.

Substitute Benrahma won from 25 yards out in the second half to give the Hammers victory over the team that beat them 2-0 in the Premier League last week.

It was West Ham’s first win in a competition since November 3 and with a trip to Wolves next in the league, Moyes said: “We have something to build on. Hopefully we can get back on track.

“It was a difficult draw and we had it in the league last week. We’re thrilled we’re through. I said in the press conference last week, “We could use someone to shoot a screamer.”

‘Said definitely did. Said has done that in a number of games – he came off the bench and was a stunner. We saw at the World Cup how much the substitutes made the difference. Luckily Said did it for us. I could have started it easily. But he came and scored a great goal.’

Benrahma’s goal began with a great tackle from Declan Rice in midfield to force possession and Moyes retained special praise for his captain who played another full 90.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank refused to become the last manager to complain about referees, although some home fans felt Rice’s tackle was a foul on Yoane Wissa.

“I think I support Andre (Marriner, the referee) and the VAR room to get this right,” Frank said. ‘No complaints. I don’t think it was a clear foul. We have four, five players behind the ball and we shoot from 25 yards… it was a good goal from Said.”

Better news for Brentford: Ivan Toney will return to full training after this weekend.
