Davina McCall calls her stepmom her “rock” in a sweet Mother’s Day post.

Davina McCall dedicated her Mother’s Day post to her stepmother as she also reflected on her tough childhood and “crappy” relationship with her birth mother.

The 55-year-old presenter shared a sweet snap of her stepmother Gaby with her father as she said she was so grateful for their “unwavering love”.

She also spoke candidly about her “funny, messy, shitty, loving, obnoxious relationship” with her birth mother Florence, saying “amazing mother figures come in many forms.”

Davina has been open about her difficult relationship with her late alcoholic mother, who abandoned her when she was a child – previously revealing they had been on drugs together when they were just 12.

She wrote in her post: “Happy Mother’s Day to my stepmom Gaby. I say she is my stepmom because amazing mother figures come in many forms.

“I had a crazy, funny, messy, shitty, loving, loathing relationship with my birth mother (if you relate follow @myhorridparent) and Gaby was my rock.

“You and my grandma have kept me sane. And I’m so grateful to them both for their unwavering love x she is also my kids’ ‘Gabba’ and they absolutely LOVE her ❤️ thanks Mumma.

‘I love you so much. Also a big thank you to everyone who is trying…it’s a bloody nightmare on you today, follow @ivfbabble (they are beautiful) and big love to anyone grieving a loss.

“These holidays are always a bit strange, aren’t they? It’s nice to celebrate/remember/love people on their special days of the year (moms, dads, valentine’s day) but sometimes it can also feel like immense pressure…”.

It comes after Davina – who has spoken openly about her own addiction – revealed in January that she started using drugs with her mum when she was just 12.

She said: “I was doing drugs with my mother when I was 12, smoking weed when I was 12, coking twice with my mother when I was 15, coking with my sister when I was 14. If people had known I couldn’t see my mom.

“But I’m not a victim, but I’m happy, I decided to study after the curve balls. Small victories in my life were huge.’

The star previously recalled the complicated relationship she had with her alcoholic mother Florence, adding that she started partying when she was a teenager as she had no matriarchal figure to turn to.

Davina said she fell into a drug addiction, which at worst led to her hospitalization.

She said in 2020: “It was very scary as it was a very gradual overdose. I had drunk a drug cocktail because I didn’t want to feel normal. I was constantly trying to escape from myself – I was like a piece of fruit rotting from the inside.

“So I was like, ‘Well, I’ll just take a Valium,’ and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the hospital. At my lowest point, when I was filled with self-loathing, it was literally a case of get clean or die.

Davina added that it was her best friend, father and stepmother who helped her come to her senses and she enrolled in Narcotics Anonymous.

Within a year of her overdose, Davina was drug-free, and the star said she still occasionally attends meetings and therapy sessions to keep her on track.

After a difficult relationship with her mother, Davina admitted that she sought fame from a young age to fill the void left by her mother’s lack of love.

The Big Brother presenter added that even after receiving 37 letters of rejection from TV stations, she has struggled to keep working.

Davina has been open about her struggles with drug addiction, recalling the moment in March 2018 when she told her three children about her past.

Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, she said: “I’ve had to be very honest about my past with the kids – especially now that they have access to the internet.

“Actually, I had to be brutally honest pretty early on when I thought other kids could talk to them about it. They grew up hearing “Mom’s going to a meeting”—they just didn’t know it was a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

“They were all really receptive. They would say, “We thought it would be something like this. Is that why you don’t drink?”

Since quitting drugs at the age of 25, Davina has also quit smoking and drinking and inspired others with her incredible fitness routine.

The star has also been dating hairstylist Michael Douglas after splitting from husband Matthew Robertson in 2017.
