She said she prepared for the moment in advance and practiced the protocol for a meeting with the king, but she was taken aback when Dawn thought she was “a witch” because of the Queen Mother’s “brown” teeth.

During an appearance on This Morning on Friday, Dawn explained: “I was four. It was terribly scary.

“We had been doing curtsy exercises. She came to my father’s military base. I was expecting unicorns and crowns and neither showed up. I’m furious.

“A woman in a purple outfit smiled at me and her teeth were brown.

“If you’re four, that’s a witch. I wouldn’t talk to her.”

Meanwhile, Dawn turned heads on Friday morning wearing a badge with the comical inscription “#1 TW*T” to promote her new book.

After appearing on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, Dawn was seen leaving the studios with a walking stick for the first time in years, raising questions about her health.

She was first photographed using the cane in 2009 after experiencing problems with her right leg.

Dawn has not yet spoken about why the cane reappeared.

Movie star Dawn released her autobiography The Tw*t Files: a hilarious memoir of mistakes, mishaps and messes this month.

It explained the reason why she suddenly decided to leave French & Saunders, her hit show with her best friend Jennifer Saunders.

Dawn recalls that the “turning point” came while filming a skit with pop star Anastacia.

Dawn and Jennifer filmed the scene in the toilets of the BBC building, with Dawn describing her fantasy that Anastacia would hear her singing and invite her to be on Top of the Pops with her.

Anastacia plays the lead role in the sketch and overhears the conversation. Cut to Dawn in the pop star’s signature cowgirl look, singing with the star on TOTP.

Dawn writes in her new book that the sight of herself in the costume was the moment she decided to leave the show. “I had truly never felt so ugly.” I often willingly and happily felt “ugly” for hundreds of sketches.

“I’ve never minded what something looks like, as long as it serves the joke correctly.” The mirror told me clearly why this was so disgusting. Because the joke was on me.’

Speak with The timesDawn insisted that her best friend didn’t try to dissuade her, explaining: “Jennifer would never fight me over something that big.”

“She’s like, ‘What the hell were you thinking?’ We could have easily sorted that out.’ But it wasn’t a problem.’

She herself has never regretted her decision and added: “I think it was time to move on to another chapter and you have to know when that happens.”
