Cardinal Pell died in Rome at the age of 81 following hip surgery, the Vatican confirmed on Wednesday.
“George Pell is dead. This will be a very moving day for many people. Thinking of her,” tweeted Milligan, a reporter at ABC’s Four Corners.

Cardinal Pell has been at the center of sexual abuse allegations for nearly two decades and was convicted in 2018 of historic incidents that he strenuously denied.
He served 404 days in prison before the conviction was overturned on appeal by the High Court of Australia in 2020.
Milligan received a Walkley Book Award for her book Cardinal: The Rise and Fall of George Pell, which is about his accusers.
