Definitive Edition in Xbox Game Pass?

The re-imagining of the fan-favorite Age of Empires II, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is coming soon to Xbox. Here’s what you need to know about availability on the Xbox Game Pass service.

The original Age of Empires II was released in 1999 and is considered a classic RTS game. The historical RTS is one of the hallmarks of the genre alongside Starcraft and has spawned memes for decades. Most famously, the Priest Unit’s “Wololo” sound effect reverses the loyalty of allied troops.

According to the game FAQ, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass. Access to the game’s online multiplayer features requires a subscription to the Xbox Game Pass console. PC Game Pass does not cover the console version of the game, so console players will need a separate subscription.

PC players get free access to the game and its DLCs on console.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition remasters the original game with graphical improvements, quality of life features, and new content, including new civilizations to play with. While the game features well-known empires like the British and Aztecs, it also features civilizations typically ignored by historical games like the Tatars and Gurjaras, offering a unique gameplay experience.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition was originally released for PC in 2019 as part of the celebrations of the original game’s 20th anniversary.
