Diogo Dalot hopes to extend Man United stay as he reveals contract talks

Diogo Dalot reveals he is in negotiations for a new contract with Man United and hopes to extend his career at Old Trafford… as the right-back admits he loves the ‘chaos’ of Premier League football
Diogo Dalot has confirmed he hopes to sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United and extend his career at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese defender’s current deal was due to expire in the summer, until United tipped a 12-month extension ahead of Christmas to keep him until June 2024.
Dalot revealed talks are now underway for a new deal, saying: “We are in a position to say we are negotiating and seeing how both parties will benefit, but it’s no secret I’m happy to be here, so we’ll do it and see how things go.

Diogo Dalot has admitted he wants to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester United
“I love this club and I love playing for this club. We are on the right track as a team. For me this is the most important part and I hope that as an individual I can continue to help the team the way I do.”
Dalot, signed from FC Porto in 2017 for £19million, appeared to have his United career in doubt after spending the 2020-21 season on loan at AC Milan.
But the 23-year-old has excelled under Erik ten Hag this season and says he loves the intensity and “mess” of Premier League football.
He added: “I agree it’s probably the best league if you’re a player who likes excitement, if you’re a player who likes intensity, if you’re a player who likes chaos.

“The kind of busy schedules. If you have that kind of mentality, I think it’s the best league to play. “But obviously we’re not all the same. There are many players who would probably rather play in a different league.
“But for me personally, having played in those three countries (England, Italy and Portugal) I would say it’s the league I enjoy the most because I like that intensity of the schedules.
“The way the English live this game, the way everyone talks about the Premier League. It’s like the world stops to see it at the weekends and I think that’s what made me love this country and of course the Premier League.
Ten Hag’s side host Charlton Athletic in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-finals and Dalot insists United must make it an “obsession” with winning trophies and ending a six-year drought at Old Trafford.

If fit, Portuguese defender Dalot was the first choice under Dutch boss Ten Hag (pictured).
The biggest club in English football has not won a trophy since winning the then EFL Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2017.
United are back on track under Ten Hag, moving up to fourth in the Premier League and also making progress in the FA Cup and Europa League this season.
But Dalot insists the club need something to show their efforts and in that sense the Carabao Cup can be just as important as the Champions League.
“I think it has to be an obsession for us to win trophies, win things,” he said. “This club is about winning trophies. It’s about competing and fighting in every trophy we’re in.

“This Carabao is no smaller than a Champions League, than a Europa League. Of course it’s different dimensions, but for us it’s a trophy and we want to win it.
“Going to Wembley is a tough journey. We know it’s difficult. But we want to take these small steps first. And we want to take every step with the certainty that we are moving in the right direction.
“I think we are, but the reality is we’re not there yet. We have a lot of things to build up first and I think this competition would be a very first big and solid step we could take, especially because it’s the first trophy of the season and we’re close.
“We have to have that kind of mentality and face the game tomorrow as if it were a Premier League game or the Europa League final or something. Hopefully we can celebrate in a month or so.’
