EastEnders: Emma makes dramatic departure from the pitch amid Lola’s deteriorating health

Lola’s mother Emma (Patsy Palmer) made a dramatic departure from the pitch on Thursday night’s episode of EastEnders.
Emma has been acting suspicious for weeks, which Lola’s partner Jay has noticed – and after the fundraiser it was all too much for Emma.
She unexpectedly showed up at Jay and Lola’s house after declining their offer to come over for a pampering night to announce that she actually has to leave town – just a day after she found out Lola only had six months to live has as she is battling a brain tumor.
She said sheepishly to the couple as Lexi slept in the next room: “I came to tell you that I have some news of my own.
“My boss, she’s moving to the US, she asked me to go with her. I’m sorry, I know the timing isn’t good. I’m glad I came and we could at least spend some time together.’

Running away: Lola’s mother Emma (Patsy Palmer) made a dramatic exit from the pitch on Thursday night’s episode of EastEnders

Exit: Emma has been acting suspicious for weeks, which Lola’s partner Jay has noticed – and after the fundraiser, Emma got overwhelmed
An enraged Jay saw their lies immediately and yelled, “And you obviously turned down the job offer? You can’t just run away now!’
An equally angry Lola (played by Danielle Harald) sarcastically replied, “Where are you going Beverly Hills? It comes just when things get tricky around here – seems too good to be true!
“I don’t know why I’m surprised. At least this time you didn’t run away without telling me. I may die, but at least I can live.
“Look what I have. What do you have? Spend every day alone!’
She then left with tears in her eyes as Lola and Jay dealt with the devastating blow.
It comes after EastEnders fans were left in tears after Lexi’s adorable gesture to her dying mother Lola on Wednesday’s episode.
Lola has six months to live as she continues to battle a brain tumor that has spread – and has told some of her friends and family, including Jay, Ben, Lexi, Emma and Callum, in the episode.
After learning the devastating cancer fundraiser news, Lexi rummaged in her bag before handing Lola her secret savings in a sweet and tearful gesture.

Sweet: After learning the devastating cancer fundraiser news, Lexi rummaged in her bag before handing Lola her secret savings in a sweet and tearful gesture
In the midst of the tender moment, her other family members began to burst into tears.
Lola told the group that she “tried her best” to fight the brain cancer, but that it “didn’t go her way this time.”
Lola explained: “I’m sorry, sorry for what I’m about to say, I don’t want to. I didn’t want to tell you guys because I thought I’d protect you guys, but I can’t do it, Jay can’t do it.
She added, “This brain tumor of mine has gotten bigger,” when Ben asked what kind of timeline they were talking about.
At that moment, Jay revealed they had six months at best when a horrified Ben Lexi called out to him.
When Lola rushed over as well, Ben reached out to her and said she didn’t need to hear it – before Lola said she couldn’t protect her anymore as Callum and mum Emma also reacted to the news.
Then Lexi offered to give her mother the money from her pocket.
Fans reacted to the moment on Twitter, with one writing: “This scene was absolutely heartbreaking!
‘Lola trying to hold it together, Ben’s reaction as Lexi pulls out her pocket money savings, Callum is crying…’.
Another said: My heart hurts for Lexi. She grew up with Lola her whole life. Lola spent 6 years of her life raising Lexi single-handedly.
“It will be so heartbreaking for Lexi when her mother dies. They have such a close bond.’
A third wrote: “My heart breaks, not just for Lola but for everyone she leaves behind. Poor Lexi, poor Jay, poor Ben. It’s just so unfair.’
EastEnders viewers were also emotional after Monday night’s episode as Lola received the devastating health prognosis amid her battle with brain cancer.
Lola was called a week early by doctors for a surprise appointment with her partner Jay Mitchell (Jamie Borthwick).
Doctors there told her that her tumor was progressing again and that she had only six months to live.
Viewers have seen Lola’s loved ones grapple with the prospect of her terminal diagnosis, with her health increasingly deteriorating in recent weeks.
She broke down in tears after receiving the news and being told the only thing they can do for her now is palliative chemotherapy.
A recent flash-forward also hinted that Lola would die before 2023 is out, with a photo of her seen at the bar at the Queen Vic Pub.
Lola arrived at the hospital full of hope as she explained to the doctor that she and her husband Jay had been working on their fundraiser day.
However, the doctor stopped her and told her she had bad news for her.
“I’m afraid that’s not good news. The MRI has found that the tumor rate is increasing again,” she said, as a hopeful Lola suggested further chemotherapy.
The doctor replied, “We can talk about starting you on chemotherapy, but I have to stress that this is a purely palliative measure.”
Fans of the show watching at home were in tears as one said: “Lola’s news. The end of #EastEnders has begun.
A second added: “Lola is being told she has only 6 months to live.”
While a third shared: “I know it’s just a soap but it breaks my heart #EastEnders.”
It comes after EastEnders fans were convinced Lola’s mum Emma is hiding some dark secrets after her odd behavior in Monday’s episode sparked even more theories.
In a recent episode of the soap, Emma was dying to spend time with Lola on Mother’s Day.
As they spent time together, the conversation turned to Emma’s own mother — and it quickly became apparent she was hiding something.
Emma told Lola her “glamorous” mum had died in a care home during lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
Later in the episode, Lola and her young daughter, Lexi, were trying to find out more about their deceased relative, and when they asked Emma about it, she seemed panicked.
Pressing the subject, Emma changed the subject and fled the house – saying she had to check on an elderly neighbor.

Concerns: Among other things, Lola’s mother Emma continues to struggle with her own hidden guilt and makes Jay suspect that she is struggling with it
After her sudden departure, it was clear that Lola and her partner Jay Brown didn’t believe her and that something was amiss.
Viewers weren’t convinced either, and took to social media to vent their theories that she lied about her mother.
On Twitter, viewers surmised that maybe she wasn’t even Lola’s mother, or even could have killed her own mother.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
