Newcastle have reached an agreement with Chelsea over a deal for teenage defender Lewis Hall.
According to the PA news agency, talks over the 18-year-old’s move to Tyneside have come to a successful conclusion and he will be the club’s fourth major signing of the summer.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe confirmed his interest in Hall at his pre-game press conference on Friday morning and hinted the move would be on loan – at least initially.
Eddie Howe says Hall’s signing would complete summer business at Newcastle.
When asked about the player, Howe said: “Let’s see what happens today.” “He’s a player I like, very versatile, really great potential.”

Asked if the move would be on loan, after admitting last week the club had to be “creative” to go ahead with the summer moves of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento, Howe added: “Yes, that I think.’ ‘Yes.’
Howe also confirmed that completing the deal would effectively end the club’s transfer business.
He said: “I think if we could bring a player in then our transfer deal would be done unless there were injuries among our own players.”
