Eddie Jones resigns as Australia coach after a disastrous Rugby World Cup season

Eddie Jones has left his position as coach of the Australian rugby team.

The Wallabies coach presided over a disastrous Rugby World Cup that saw the Wallabies eliminated in the group stages and Wales and Fiji progressing to the knockout stages.

Jones returned to Australia earlier this year, taking over from Dave Rennie on a $4.5 million contract that runs until 2027. Rugby bosses plan for the 63-year-old to further develop the team at the next World Cup – which takes place Down Under. in the back of my mind.

But Jones’ long-term vision has been called into question as the former England manager has reportedly held talks with the Japanese FA over the head coach role.

Jones denied speculation he had met with Japanese coaches ahead of the tournament in France, although reports from Asia suggest he is close to taking the Brave Blossoms job.
