Eddie Murphy dons THE iconic Detroit Lions jacket while filming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley in LA

Still fits like a glove! Eddie Murphy is reunited with his iconic Detroit Lions varsity jacket as he reprises his role as the witty detective on day one on the set of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley

The 1980s really were back when Eddie Murphy slipped into an instantly recognizable piece of clothing ahead of his first scenes on the set of a new Beverly Hills cop movie on Tuesday.

The American actor became a household name worldwide thanks to his role as the witty, streetwise detective Axel Foley in the 1984 blockbuster and two subsequent sequels.

And 28 years after he last played the character, 61-year-old Murphy was reunited with the now-iconic Detroit Lions varsity jacket that Foley wore on his first day on the set of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley on all three of his previous ones preferred appearances.

The actor also wore a pair of pale blue jeans – another Axel staple – while his left arm was secured in a sling prior to his first few scenes.

Murphy reportedly shot his scene alongside Taylour Paige, whose previous films include the late Chadwick Boseman’s last film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

The Golden Globe Award-winner played Axel Foley, a quick-witted Detroit cop who moves to Beverly Hills to solve his friend’s murder, in the first four Beverly Hills cop films.

This is the second time Murphy has been spotted working on the film, which has encountered detours and delays, and it comes a day after the announcement that Murphy will be joined by two other power players recently cast in the film .

It was confirmed on Monday that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylor Paige would be joining the cast, though neither role was announced.

Gordon-Levitt has recently gained notoriety for his roles in Super Pumped and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
