Adam Rich, who starred as the youngest son on the popular series Eight Is Enough, has died at the age of 54.

A family member revealed, according to TMZ, that the former actor died at his home on Saturday.

The family member did not reveal his cause of death, but police sources said it did not appear to be foul play.

Adam had starred in a number of projects throughout his career, which began after he was cast as Nicholas Bradford on the ABC sitcom Eight Is Enough in the late 1970s when he was just eight years old.

The series, which aired for a total of five seasons, was based on the premise of “a family of eight very independent children,” according to an IMDB synopsis.

After the show, he also appeared in Code Red, which lasted one season, and was a voice actor for Dungeons And Dragons. He also worked on the 1997 film The City.

However, the talented star made the decision to retire from Hollywood and the entertainment industry in the 80’s to avoid being in the spotlight and opted for a more private life.

Adam was born in 1968 and has lived in Los Angeles for most of his life. His career began when he began learning from an acting teacher at Chatsworth High School who had also taught talented stars such as Top Gun graduate Val Kilmer.

One of the actor’s most recent successes was the 2003 comedy Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, in which he played himself.

Adam was also reportedly linked to substance abuse, leading to an arrest in 1991 after he smashed a pharmacy window to steal drugs, TV Line reported.

Dick Van Patten, who played his father Tom Bradford in Eight Is Enough, released him on bail after the arrest.

The following year, 1992, the late actor had checked himself into a drug rehabilitation program. He was reportedly arrested later in 2002 for drunk driving but denied the charges, according to CBS News. “I’ve been sober for 10 years,” he said at the time.
