Popular Indian television actress Dr. Priya died of a heart attack in the eighth month of her pregnancy at just 35 years old.
The mother-to-be reportedly died on October 31 during a routine check-up at the hospital, suffering a “sudden” cardiac arrest.
Her newborn baby is currently in the intensive care unit of a private hospital after doctors managed to save her, according to her co-star Kishor Satya, with whom she worked on the drama Karuthamuthu, who broke the news in an Instagram post.
He said of his co-star’s death: “Last night when I went to the hospital, the sight of sadness overwhelmed me.”
Dr. Priya was a doctor by profession and one of the most popular actors in India. Local media reported that she worked at the PRS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram in the southern state of Kerala.

Her death is the third in a series of unexpected deaths among Indian television personalities.
On Monday, Indian television star Renjusha Menon committed suicide in an apartment she shared with her husband Manoj, a fellow actor.
Menon, who was just 35 when she died, was known for her supporting roles in several TV shows and films, including City of God, Marykkundoru Kunjaadu, Bombay March and Karyasthan.
The actress, who is survived by her father CG Ravindranath and mother Umadevi, was reportedly in severe financial trouble at the time of her death.
And in September, actress Aparna Nair committed suicide in her apartment at the age of just 33. She leaves behind her husband and two children.
