The incident happened at 5:20 p.m. in Ilous Ellis Park — near Avenue M and 13th Street — and was sparked by what appeared to be a disagreement, the sheriff’s office said.

When panicked parade-goers tried to flee after the shots were fired, four other people, including a child, were injured.

Video taken after the shooting shows panicked crowds of adults and children running between parked cars and trucks.

A man can even be seen holding a black pistol while looking across the parking lot, partially hiding behind a van.

Another man was lying on the ground surrounded by a line of people who were offering him help and apparently trying to locate his wound by removing his shirt.

“Several people were shot, it sounds like there was some sort of disagreement between two parties when we first looked at the scene here and unfortunately they chose to resolve it with guns,” said Chief Deputy Brian Hester Chief of St. Lucie, opposite News4JAX.

“It was mass chaos, as you can imagine, when shots rang out,” he said. “There were more than a thousand people here at the event and when the shots were fired, people just ran in all directions.”

“And then so many innocent people who were hurt or hurt and who weren’t part of the disagreement either.”

The sheriff’s office said it had several leads. Dozens of lawmakers in the area worked to find one or more shooters.
