Elon Musk asks Twitter if he should step down as app boss, vowing to stick to poll results

Elon Musk is leaving his Twitter exit to online users.
The billionaire Tesla founder released a poll asking his more than 120 million followers whether or not he should step down from his role as head of the company.
“Should I resign as Twitter boss? I will abide by the results of this poll,” the Chief Twit posted just before 6:30 p.m.
In less than two hours, the poll had received more than 5.3 million votes, with the majority for Musk to resign. Those findings may have prompted Musk’s follow-up tweet: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for as you may get it.”

“Should I resign as Twitter boss? I’ll stick to the poll results,” Musk pleaded
Just after 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 58 percent of voters voted “yes” for his resignation, an estimated 3,208,000 voters.
Responses to Musk’s tweets have varied, to say the least, with many Twitter users sharing the poll hoping the results will support his departure, while others flooded his comments begging him to stay.
“People who vote yes know that Elon will still own Twitter, he’ll just find someone to handle the day-to-day operations but have a say in everything sooo your yes is meaningless,” wrote USA Today sportswriter Steve uneasy.
“I’m not sure this is the most scientific way to make such a decision,” said Vanity Fair special correspondent Molly Jong Fast.
“I agree no. Because you show that you want to improve. Own your mistakes. Go forward. Improve,” said one person.
“Let me predict the consequences of this survey: If “yes”, Elon will be CEO for a few more months until he finds a loyal successor. If “no”, Elon will be CEO for a few more months until he finds a loyal successor,” said one Twitter user.

Reactions to Musk’s question have been mixed

Musk has faced criticism for his handling of the app over the past few days and weeks, including his recent suspension of notable journalists who have covered him.
On Saturday night, he kicked Washington Post writer Taylor Lorenz off the app after she was accused of revealing the exact address of TikTok talent scout Ariadna Jacob in a 2020 article.
Lorenz confirmed she was booted from the platform in a TikTok video on Saturday night, but Musk said less than 12 hours later he would lift her ban.
“Temporary suspension due to previous doxxing of this account,” Musk wrote in response to a tweet about Lorenz’s suspension. ‘Will be lifted shortly.’

Musk took similar action Friday night when he reinstated nine journalists he had suspended the previous day.
The tech giant left the decision to restore those accounts to users in another poll decided by app users.
“People have spoken. Accounts that doxxed my location will now be banned,” Musk said in a tweet Friday night.
The Twitter owner on Thursday banned journalists from CNN, Washington Post, New York Times and other outlets after reporting on his decision to suspend an account recording his private jet use.

“Let that sink in,” Musk said in a video from his first day entering Twitter HQ
Last week, the Chief Twit also sparked outrage after a string of attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser.
In a tweet, Musk claimed his “Pronouns are prosecuted / Fauci,” prompting many to respond to his comment announcing pronouns, as well as vitriol against the infectious disease expert.
In another tweet, Musk showed the face of Dr. Fauci, photoshopped into a meme, whispered “just one more lockdown my king” to US President Joe Biden.
Musk said, “Fauci lied to Congress and funded the gain-of-function research that has killed millions of people. Not great. imo.’
