And it seems the league leaders’ journey to Manchester grew worse during warm-up when their attacking midfielder appeared to be stepping up with an injury.

As reported by the athleteSmith Rowe’s David Ornstein appeared to be in some distress during the substitutes’ training session, prompting Arsenal assistant manager Carlos Cuesta to escort him back to the dressing room.

A setback would see the 22-year-old join midfield trio Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson on the Gunners’ injury list.

Despite appearing in 33 of 38 Premier League games last season, Smith Rowe is yet to start under Arteta this season, with the Spaniard favoring an attacking midfield with Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Saka behind Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal stayed at the top despite losing at Old Trafford as Manchester City failed to win all three points against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Gunners meet Everton in the Emirates next weekend after playing their first Europa League clash against Zurich on Thursday.
