Emotional moment: A woman reunites with her dog after it was rescued from a sewage pipe

Emotional moment a woman is reunited with her mischievous Jack Russell Spike as he was rescued from a sewer pipe after being stuck for seven hours

A heartwarming video shows the emotional moment a woman cuddles her mischievous dog after it was trapped in a sewer pipe for seven hours.

Spike, the Jack Russell, went missing around 3pm on Thursday from his owners garden in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

After a search, they found the pup’s barking could be heard coming from a sewer pipe and called the fire department.

Teams from Buckfastleigh Fire Station and Newton Abbott Fire Station soon arrived after being distracted by an exercise on the South Devon Railway.

Amazingly, after the teams used their “snake eye” camera to locate Spike within the 100m pipe network, the teams eventually found Spike trapped 45m from the pipe’s entrance.

A video shows the moment the team managed to talk Spike into crawling backwards down the pipe before he was finally pulled out by the team.

A spokesman for Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: “Upon arrival we were greeted by Spike’s owners who said he had been missing from his garden since around 3pm and when searching they heard him barking in the pipe.”

“The officer in charge asked our colleagues from Newton Abbot Fire Station to join us so we could use their snake eye camera to try and get a picture of how far down and what pipe it was in.”

“The pipe system was about 100 m long and many pipes ended in different places.

“After placing the camera at all possible entry points and digging an inspection pit, we found another inspection pit in the middle of the field and here we could see Spike trapped in the pipe about 45m from the pit entrance.

Luckily, Spike saw the light at the end of the camera as his way into the darkness and with a little coaxing from his owners, slowly but surely managed to inch himself backwards until he could be grabbed.

“Spike was unharmed after being trapped for over seven hours, a little smelly and tired from his adventure, but back with his family.”
