England heroine Beth Mead has signed a new contract with Arsenal after an outstanding year for club and country.
Mead won the Golden Boot at this summer’s European Championships, which the Lionesses won, and finished second in the Ballon d’Or behind Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas.
The winger has now assured the Gunners of her long-term future with a new multi-year deal that will keep her at the club beyond next season.
England and Arsenal star Beth Mead has entrusted her long-term future to the Gunners
“I’m so happy to have signed a new contract with Arsenal,” Mead said.
“This club is my home – I’ve grown so much here as a player and as a person and I know we can achieve much more together in the years to come.
“I want to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and I know Arsenal’s ambitions align with my own so I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and help achieve that success, that our fans deserve.”
Mead was Player of the Tournament and top scorer in England’s Euro 2022 triumph
The Arsenal star has been with the club since 2017 and has made almost 150 appearances for the Gunners
Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall added: “It is wonderful news that we have secured a new contract for Beth. She’s a world-class soccer player and proved it on the biggest stage of them all.
“I have so much admiration for how she has handled success and adversity on and off the pitch over the past few years and I’m sure she will face the next few months with the positive attitude we all know Beth for. ”
The contract news comes after a difficult month for Mead, who tore her cruciate ligament in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat by Manchester United.
The 27-year-old faces a race against time to be fit for next summer’s World Cup, but she looks set to end 2022 on a high note at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
Mead is now 1/80th down to win the individual award next week while the Lionesses are favorites to win the Team of the Year award.
Mead tore her ACL earlier this season and is a huge doubt for next summer’s World Cup
