England’s stars are greeted by ecstatic staff with huge party bangers and flags

England’s players and coaches were greeted by jubilant hotel staff and fans as they returned to their Al Wakrah base after beating Senegal.

Gareth Southgate’s side ensured they reached another quarter-final by sweeping aside underperforming African champions Aliou Cisse – and set up a delicious duel with France to clinch a place in the last four.

Arriving back at the hotel after another very successful evening, England’s players entered the hotel and were greeted with joyful admiration from the staff and a few others who threw an endearing celebration.

In scenes similar to those at Holland’s Hotel after their win against USA on Saturday night, Southgate players entered the lobby with flags waving and confetti falling from above.

It was a welcome break from the previously sad news that popular squad member Raheem Sterling was forced to return home after his partner and children were subjected to an armed robbery at their Surrey home.

When England’s players arrived at the hotel, the workers were dancing, some with vuvuzela-like horns while others had the St George’s flag slung over their shoulders.

In the footage, which is being shared across England’s social media channels, Jack Grealish can be seen particularly pleased with the attention the team is being given as he dances upon his arrival.

The players themselves will have their own footage of the joyous scenes – many filming their teammates. Mason Mount seemed to find Grealish’s performance particularly amusing.

Unlike Grealish, Marcus Rashford didn’t seem to want to interfere – he walked through the crowd with his hood on, despite having a huge grin on his face. Back-up goalie Nick Pope was bouncing up and down beside him.

Phil Foden, who appears to have settled in after a difficult start to the tournament and is likely to face France for the third consecutive game on Saturday, filmed the scenes.

While Declan Rice, always the enthusiast, bounced like Pope in a scrum with Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Grealish and some of those who stayed up to greet the players.

It must have been very nice for the staff to have been received with the same enthusiasm by the players themselves.

Kyle Walker, meanwhile, took a leaf out of Manchester City team-mate Grealish’s book as he danced an individual jig. The right-back, who returned from injury against Wales and is now set to the unenviable task of keeping Kylian Mbappe calm, waved a small flag as the jubilant scenes continued around him.

England footage ended with supporters singing England – no doubt hoping for a similar party late Saturday night.

Unlike Holland’s video, there was little footage of Southgate jocking like Louis van Gaal, with the manager being caught briefly grinning in the background.

The charismatic Dutchman stole the show as his side returned home after beating USA 3-1. Van Gaal danced and filmed those who greeted his Dutch side, causing much hilarity on social media.

Two weeks after being greeted by local fans outside their hotel, England are now entering the final stages of the tournament and are dreaming of a place in the last four in consecutive editions.

Southgate lauded his side’s ruthlessness after defeating Senegal as England continued their impressive goalscoring streak.

“I think the ruthlessness of our execution (was my favorite part),” Southgate told ITV.

“But the way the team worked off and off the ball. I think in the end we were a bit sticky on the ball for the first 25-30 minutes.

“Senegal had a lot of energy, they pressed well, their form was good. And we really had our best chance when we took the ball from them.”
