A segment on Friday’s episode of ‘NBA Today’ got a little awkward when ESPN insider Brian Windhorst listed Memphis Grizzlies’ Danny Green as a potential trade target…while the player was sitting right next to him.

Green has recovered from an injury and taken a part-time analyst role on the show, but that didn’t stop one of his peers from picking him while discussing Grizzlies players who may be leaving soon.

“One of the people people talk about is if the Grizzlies want to get promoted, are they going to call about Danny Green and a draft pick?” said Windhorst.

“I’m not shocked,” Green said to laughter from the panel. “At this point in my career, I hear my name quite a lot.”

Windhorst would go on to mention that he wasn’t sure about the condition of Green’s knee and would ask him about it right away.

Green was traveling to rehabilitate a knee injury he sustained in the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference semifinals when he tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Green averaged 8.6 points on 40.8% shooting from 3-point range in the postseason.

Despite the injury, Green was still traded to the Grizzlies during the 2022 NBA draft in a deal that sent him and a first-round draft pick to Memphis in exchange for point guard De’Anthony Melton.

Memphis currently has a 19-9 record, which is good enough for first place in the NBA Western Conference, and has clearly performed well enough that no immediate roster changes need to be made.

However, injuries took a toll on the team and if injury woes continue, Green’s move – whose expiring contract could be attractive to teams – would be very much on the table.

“I’m not surprised at this point in my career… it’s a blessing,” Green said. “I think I’m in a good space. I’ll be approaching the court again soon. But we still have a little time.’
