Twenty-five years have passed since Mike Tyson slapped Evander Holyfield in the ear, a moment that has since been woven into the tapestry of modern sporting memoirs.

Now the public has a chance to claim a piece of history in the form of Holyfield’s gloves worn during the rematch win at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The red Everlast gloves have Holyfield #1 written on the cuff on both gloves and appear to appear slightly worn, reflective on the three rounds.

This time the gloves are not sold by Holyfield. You’ve been to an auction where Holyfield consigned the famous gloves.

There have been five bids since the open, starting at $10,000 and now up to $12,155.

During the sequel, Holyfield once again looked the more dominant force.

As a result, it appeared, Tyson grew frustrated and bit Holyfield a piece of his ear in the third round.

Points were deducted from Iron Mike before walking again, biting Holyfield on the opposite ear and earning him referee Mills Lane’s disqualification.

After the incident, Tyson had his boxing license revoked by the Nevada State Athletic Commission – which was reinstated 15 months later – and fined $3 million.

Tyson has since clarified his version of events surrounding what is perhaps the most iconic moment of his career.

The now-popular cult figure said on his podcast, Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, that he got angry when Holyfield allegedly “kicked the shit out of me” and “rang my friggin’ bell.”

“The last thing I remember I was like, ‘This motherf***** is going to die.’ And it was on.

“I would have bitten his nose, his lip, everything. I would have bitten everything, I would have bitten his balls, his d***, everything.’

Holyfield admitted he wanted to give Tyson some of his own medicine before some near and divine advice ensured he refrained from retaliating.

“I just remember how angry I was and how upset I was,” Holyfield told Chris Mannix in 2020.
