EXCLUSIVE: Kellyville speech-language pathologist at center of bloody knife fight between ex-husband and ‘violent’ ex-partner

A speech-language pathologist who was allegedly threatened with a knife by her ex-partner at her home was hours away from facing him in court after performing an AVO.

Lauren Salamakis, 35, and her three children were inside the $1.85million Kellyville home in north-west Sydney around 2.30am on Tuesday when Fraser Thomson, 41, allegedly broke into the property with a knife.

Police were called to the quiet suburban street where they found Thomson, 41, with severe cuts to his forearms and Ms Salamakis’ estranged husband Paul, 39, with cuts to his hands.

The men were treated by paramedics from the NSW Ambulance before being taken to Westmead Hospital. Both were in stable condition with Thomson under police protection.

The 41-year-old was released around 12.30pm on Tuesday and taken to Castle Hill Police Station where he is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Ms Salamakis and the three children were shaken but unharmed, police said.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that Thomson was due to appear in Parramatta Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on a range of charges, including an AVO issued just two weeks ago to protect Ms Salamakis.

However, court records show their relationship has been tumultuous for some time, as Ms Salamakis filed an AVO against Thomson back in January 2021.

Daily Mail Australia understands Mr Salamakis was present at the property at the time of the alleged burglary and had been staying at his estranged wife’s home for the past few weeks.

Neighbors said they noticed on Monday night that Mr Salamakis’ black Ford Ranger was parked in the driveway.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia from hospital on Tuesday, Mr Salamakis said he was recovering and doing well under the circumstances.

He said he spent his morning taking calls, at which point he asked for privacy before thanking the reporter for reaching out.

Ms. Salamakis, who has teaching experience, runs a speech-language pathology business in north-west Sydney.

According to her company website, she has “extensive experience working in school settings with school-age children, their families and teachers with a variety of communication difficulties.”

Her areas of interest include helping teachers support children through classroom and early intervention, and supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Mr. Salamakis is the managing director of two The Coffee Club outlets owned by his mother and sister.

In 2016, he made headlines when he campaigned for a family with cancer while working at a McDonald’s in Mount Druitt.

Speaking to the media Tuesday, Superintendent Gary Bachelor said items found in a backpack belonging to Thomson indicated his visit to the residence was allegedly premeditated.

“We allege that the man … intended to harm the people at this address,” the superintendent said.

Superintendent Bachelor said it was incredibly “traumatic” and “distressing” that there were several young children in the home at the time of the alleged break-in.

“One of the men is known to police for a number of reasons,” he said.

“An alleged perpetrator who attends such a speech is extremely serious.”

The police searched the surrounding streets and seized video surveillance and witness statements.

Channel Nine has reported that neighbors say this is not an isolated case and that police have visited the Kellyville address several times in recent weeks.

Neighbors said they were terrified of what they saw overnight.

“I’ve lived here for five years, a really peaceful street.” “That’s really shocking,” said one man.

A crime scene has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Uniformed police and plainclothes investigators and forensic teams are on the property.

Officials were seen taking statements from residents in the quiet cul-de-sac where homes cost more than $1 million.
