According to Atlanta police, the 27-year-old wideout was pulled over on I-75 around 2 a.m. for allegedly speeding and not staying in his lane.
Officials conducted an on-site sobriety test that Batson failed and attempted to arrest the former Texas Tech star. According to the police, there was a violent traffic stop.
“The driver resisted and fought violently with the officer,” the department’s press release said. “During the incident, the officer fired his firearm but no one was hit.”
Batson reportedly returned to his truck and tried to flee, but crashed shortly after.
“The suspect was able to evade the officer, get back into his vehicle and flee the scene,” the press release said. “He fell a short distance away, near Northside Drive and Echota Drive, and ran away on foot.
“Several officers searched the area and were able to locate the suspect who was hiding in the area. He was taken into custody and faces multiple charges.
“The officer and the suspect were both taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the altercation. At this point the investigation will continue.’
Batson was undrafted by Texas Tech in 2018 but signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans, for whom he played portions of three seasons. His best year came in 2020 when he had 12 catches for 100 yards in a dozen games.
He signed with the Falcons’ practice team ahead of the 2022 season but has not yet been promoted to the 53-man roster.
