The family of the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho students are urging the public to presume his innocence.

A statement released by Bryan Kohberger’s family addresses the charges, offers their condolences to the families of the victims and asks people to refrain from judgment during this time while they stand by him.

Kohberger, who has been dubbed the “black sheep” among his peers, was arrested in his home state of Pennsylvania on Friday.

“We will pursue legal action and as a family we will love and support our son and brother,” the family said.

Kohberger is currently in prison awaiting extradition to Idaho, where he was charged with the murders of college students Kailee Golcalves, 21, Maddie Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20. All four were stabbed in their beds early in the morning of 11/13

“First and foremost, we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel and we pray for it every day,” read in part the statement obtained by TMZ.

“We have cooperated fully with law enforcement to seek the truth and further his presumption of innocence, rather than assessing unknown facts and making false assumptions. We respect privacy in this matter as our family and families suffering losses may go through the legal process.’
