Firefighter reveals the shocking harassment that forced her to quit her ‘dream job’

A firefighter was harassed by a manager who demanded sexual favors in exchange for a promotion.

Tracy Lamb had to give up her ‘dream job’ after four years working for the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service when bosses failed to sack her abuser.

She told ITV News that as a trainee she was targeted by a manager. He then proceeded to sexually harass her.

She said: “When I asked him about the development of my career, he turned around and said, ‘Well you know what the currency is here, it is [sexual favours]’.

“And that was also said in front of other firefighters. I had asked for two final signatures to complete my development folder and that would have made me a full firefighter.

Ms Lamb said the officer was only demoted after a police review and transferred to another location – but was later allowed to return

“He got up and walked behind me and I heard him unbutton his pants.”

She described turning around and realizing that he had exposed himself. When she complained, the officer was cleared of wrongdoing.

Ms Lamb said: “I wouldn’t tell any other woman to put your hand up and say this is going on. No one in their right mind would do it because it was hell. I lost my dream job.”

The service’s Mark Jones said the “disciplinary policy” was being reviewed.
