Floyd Mayweather has announced he is taking legal action against organizers of a prominent NBA game in Las Vegas to mark Pro Bowl weekend.
Mayweather, 45, posted a statement on Instagram Saturday night – when the game was scheduled – that his name had been used without his permission.
By then, it had been widely expected that Mayweather would take part in the game as captain of one of the teams – his role was even discussed in a FOX5 news segment showing a preview of the game on Friday with some TikTokers who were also in the game became.
One TikToker on the FOX5 segment even joked that he had texted Mayweather and that they would be bear wrestling together after the game.
But Mayweather himself appeared unaware of any expected involvement.

He released a statement on Instagram, which read, “I have not authorized the use of my name or likeness for the promoted celebrity basketball game and therefore will not be attending the basketball game.
“My apologies to all fans who have planned to attend this event to see me. Since my name has been used without my permission, I will take legal action against this.’
He also captioned the post, “People do what they want to do. There was never a confirmation.’
Mayweather was instead pictured at Flippers Roller Boogie Palace in Hollywood on Saturday night.
The game itself featured a number of NFL stars, including the Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, the Las Vegas Raiders’ Malcom Butler and Duron Harmon, and the Buffalo Bills’ Stefon Diggs.
The 49ers’ Deebo Samuel and Los Angeles Chargers’ Derwin James Jr. also played, while NBA icon Dennis Rodman served as coach for the game.
