Moroccan footballer Sofian Kiyine has been hospitalized after a horrific car accident in which he smashed through the wall of a sports hall in Belgium.

Kiyine – who plays for OH Leuven in the Belgian Pro League – appeared to lose control of his vehicle at a roundabout in Liege.

Children were present in the gymnasium at the time of the crash, but the youngsters had retreated to the changing rooms shortly before and fortunately no one else was injured.

Kiyine was hospitalized after Thursday night’s accident, but his condition is not considered life-threatening.

In a video, the footballer’s car can be seen speeding down a road as it approaches a roundabout.

The car then takes off up the roundabout and is thrown through the air before smashing into the gymnasium at breakneck speed, leaving a huge hole in the building.

According to reports, Belgian authorities are investigating the incident.

A spokesman for OH Leuven – which is owned by Leicester owner King Power – said: “The club has learned that Sofian Kiyine was involved in a serious car crash near Liege last night.

‘Kiyine was taken to the emergency department of the nearest hospital, where further tests are taking place.

“He is not in mortal danger. Fortunately, no other vehicles or people were involved in the accident.

“The club is waiting for more clarity on the exact circumstances of how the accident happened before reacting any further.

“We wish Sofian a speedy recovery.”

It’s unclear what speed Kiyine was driving when he crashed, but the speed limit on the road he was on is 55 mph.

The Louis Melin Gymnasium hosts football, basketball and gymnastics but will likely be unusable for an extended period following the damage caused by the crash.

Kiyine, 25, was born in Belgium and came through the youth teams at Standard Liège.

After joining now-defunct Italian club Chievo, the midfielder also played for Lazio, Salernitana and Venezia before joining OH Leuven last summer.

He has represented Morocco’s U20 and U23 teams but is yet to make his full senior debut for the Atlas Lions.
