For Her Sins viewers are enthralled by Channel 5’s ‘formulaic and slow-paced’ psychological thriller

‘I’ve lost interest’ Unfazed viewers praise Channel 5’s ‘formulaic and slow’ psychological thriller ‘For Her Sins’

For Her Sins viewers have dubbed Channel 5’s new psychological thriller a “formulaic” psychological thriller and said they “lost interest” after only two episodes of the series.

The four-part season, which will air on back-to-back nights this week, follows mother-of-two Laura (played by Jo Joyner) who befriends a seemingly charming woman named Emily.

Gradually, Laura’s picture-perfect life begins to fall apart around her, and the mother is haunted by flashbacks of a drowning child.

As the show progresses, it becomes clear that Emily (played by Rachel Shenton) is determined to wreak havoc on Laura’s life.

At the beginning of the series, the brunette beauty, who hides her own secrets, is shown talking to an unknown person on the phone and telling her, “It sure is her.”

Although viewers were initially captivated, last night’s episode was not well received by audiences.

As the show aired, Twitter users expressed their disappointment with the way the episode went.

Engaging in the “formulaic” storylines, one groaned, “Recipe for Channel 5 drama – mind-blowing flashbacks, eerie background music, time-filling exteriors of a family home, a former soap actress.”

“And soooo slow!”

Meanwhile, another added: “I’ve lost interest…”

Additionally, others said they had trouble immersing themselves in the drama because of Emily’s phone.

A third wrote: “For goodness sakes mute your phone!!!”

A fourth commented on the character’s attempt to take a discreet photo, saying: “At least have a silent shutter button on your phone.”

However, not everyone was so critical of the episode – one fan raved about how much they liked Jo’s performance as Laura.

They tweeted, “I love Jo Joyner.” “Riptide was a complete waste of their talents.”

Another turned the attention back to Emily and said, “She may be a manipulative psychopath, but she certainly has beautiful hair. How does she keep it so long and thick…?’

Earlier this month, Jo – who played Ranya Branning in EastEnders – discussed her latest role in an interview with the radio times.

She said, “Laura isn’t sure if she’s ultimately a nice person and if she deserves a nice life or kids, for a variety of reasons.”

“Deep down, she lacks self-esteem and doubts herself.” She doesn’t want to have any fun at all. She has forgotten who she is.’

In the first episode, viewers learn that Laura keeps a box of newspaper clippings about a boy named Jamie who drowned at a vacation spot years ago.

Although Emily and Jamie’s relationship is initially unclear, the audience is given the impression that Emily somehow blames her new boyfriend for his death.

For Her Sins continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
