Javier Hernandez shot from the point in the 98th minute of the duel between LA Galaxy and Kansas
The 34-year-old forward opened the scoring against Sporting KC with a cool fourth-minute finish before the visitors took a 2-1 lead in the second half with goals from Johnathon Russell and Felipe Hernandez.
He then sent John Pulskamp the wrong way with his first penalty of the game and put it straight into the Kreuzeck in the 88th minute.
Hernandez, however massively overcomplicated with his second shot from 12 meters in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
The prolific striker, who has scored seven goals in seven games to take his tally to 14 for the season, opted for a panenka but telegraphed his attempt.
The former Manchester United striker had previously scored twice in the LA Galaxy game
The ball went straight into Pulskamp’s hands – leaving Hernandez with his head in his hands.
Hernandez apologized to the Galaxy hands after the match and raised their hands with a prayer sign.
As he left the field shortly after, he told LA Galaxy fans, “We had a clear chance to get the three points, we couldn’t… I take responsibility, I’m sorry.
“Two weeks ago the Panenka worked very well, now it didn’t work this time. I have to look ahead, take responsibility and keep improving and working.”
Hernandez also made headlines recently when he rebounded against Toronto FC, where he prostrated himself with remarkable exaggeration after a row with Michael Bradley, Richie Laryea and Chris Mavinga.
Galaxy is currently eighth in the Western Conference and returns against Nashville on Sept. 10 as they continue to battle for playoff spots.
