Former Yankee Andrew Benintendi agrees to negotiate with the Chicago White Sox for $75 million for five years

All-Star Outfielder Andrew Benintendi and the Chicago White Sox inked a five-year, $75 million deal on Tuesday.

He is due a signing bonus of $3 million plus $8 million in 2023, $16.5 million per season from 2024-26 and $14.5 million in 2027.

Benintendi, 28, helped Boston win a World Series championship in 2018. He won a Gold Glove with Kansas City in 2021 and was selected to his first All-Star team last season before the Royals traded him to the New York Yankees July 27.

He hit a career-high .304 in 126 games, though his home run went down to five from 17 in 2021.

Benintendi batted .254 in 33 games with the Yankees and missed the playoffs with a fractured right wrist.

The wrist injury happened in September while the Yankees were playing the Rays.

Overall, Benintendi has a .279 batting average and 73 homers in seven seasons with Boston, Kansas City and New York.

He reunites with White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, who took over as Hall of Famer Tony La Russa after spending the past 10 years in various coaching roles at Kansas City.

Chicago is looking to recover from a disappointing 2022 season when the team went 81-81 and finished 11 games behind AL Central champions Cleveland.

Coming from back-to-back playoff games, the White Sox ran away with the division in 2021.
