Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has his penalty disallowed for touching the ball TWICE

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was disallowed for a penalty against Newcastle after touching the ball twice before hitting the back of the net.

Marco Silva’s side were awarded a penalty after a VAR check in the second half following a foul by Kieran Trippier on Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the penalty area.

Mitrovic appeared hoping to score against his former side and he did just that before turning away to celebrate.

However, the Serb’s joy was short-lived, denied by referee Robert Jones after Mitrovic touched the ball twice after slipping earlier.

The law states: “When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching the goal line, in line with or behind the goal line.

“The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moving. The kicker may not play the ball again until it has touched another player. The penalty kick ends when the ball stops moving, goes out of play, or the referee stops play for an offence.”

Alexander Isak scored a late winner for Newcastle in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Fulham

It is the third time Mitrovic has missed from 12 yards after being rejected against Wolves in August and the other comes against Southampton on New Year’s Eve.

Newcastle won the game thanks to Alexander Isak’s close-range header with a minute remaining.

The defeat at St James’ Park keeps Fulham sixth in the Premier League while Newcastle move back up to third.

The Cottagers will look to return to winning ways when they host London rivals Tottenham next Monday.
