GMA host Robin Roberts and her partner Amber Laign receive their marriage license on the eve of their wedding

Robin Roberts and her long-time partner Amber Laign are one step closer to tying the knot after 18 years together.

The brides-to-be looked more in love than ever as they visited the Farmington County Clerk’s office in Connecticut to receive their marriage license ahead of their wedding on Friday.

Roberts, 62, and Laign, 49, smiled and held hands in the heartwarming video shared on the Good Morning America host’s Instagram page the night before the ceremony.

“The road to the ring is coming to an end… 18 years and the wait was definitely worth it!” she wrote in the caption, adding the hashtags #ThankfulThursday and #HappyWeddingEve.

The recording began with them walking arm in arm to City Hall in Farmington, where Roberts owns a home.

When asked where they were going, Laign revealed that they were getting their marriage license.

The masseuse couldn’t hide her excitement as she smiled with her mouth open just before they entered the office.

After confirming her paperwork was completed, the Farmington County Clerk’s Office employee asked her to raise her right hand.

“Do you sincerely confirm and declare that the statements made here are true?” she asked and they both said, “Yes.”

Roberts was the first to sign the paperwork, followed by Laign.

“I have to get used to signing Roberts,” she said of taking her future wife’s name.

“This is your marriage certificate. “You give this to the priest at your wedding along with the instructions in this envelope,” the staff member explained.

“He’s going to fill out this section down here that says officer. There are just a few spots he needs to fill. Then he will return it to this office.

“We’ll get it done.” We’ll sign it and add your social networks. “This paper will remain in our vault forever and ever.”

Roberts said “everything was wonderful” as they left, but admitted they had an interesting interaction during the visit.

“There was a gentleman who said that marriage consists of three rings: the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the suffering ring.” “That was nice to hear,” she joked.

The couple received their marriage license just days after Laign celebrated her 49th birthday on September 5.

Roberts shared a sweet video of her fiancée making a wish before blowing out the candles on her cake.

“Big week for Sweet Amber! “Before we exchange our wedding vows later this week…special birthday celebration tonight,” she captioned the footage.

Roberts and Laign met through mutual friends after a blind date in 2005. The former recounted their meeting in her memoir, Everybody’s Got Something.

“There was a gentleman who said that marriage is made up of three rings: the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the suffering ring.” “That was nice to hear,” Roberts joked.

“I liked the fact that she had no idea who I was. She rarely followed sports, so she never saw me on ESPN, and her office colleagues at the time watched another morning show…ouch!’ She wrote.

“She is extremely relaxed, no drama, no fuss,” she added. “The main thing we have in common is positive energy. She sees the good in everyone.”

Roberts had Laign’s support as she battled and defeated an early form of breast cancer in 2007. Five years later, she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a disease in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells.

She underwent several chemotherapy sessions and received a bone marrow transplant from her sister Sally-Ann Roberts on September 20, 2012, before returning to Good Morning America in February 2013.

The couple kept their relationship secret until 2013, when Roberts first came out in a Facebook post. She shared a list of all the people she was grateful for as the year came to a close, including her “long-time friend Amber.”

Nearly a decade later, their roles were reversed and Roberts cared for Laign while she battled breast cancer.

Roberts revealed Laign’s cancer diagnosis in a video shared to her social media accounts in February 2022, saying she had to step away from the morning show “from time to time” to be by her partner’s side while she underwent treatment.

“My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something she faced.” At the end of [2021]“Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said.

The GMA star explained that Laign had undergone surgery the month before and began chemotherapy that day.

“Thankfully the prognosis is good. “And we are so grateful to our family and close friends who knew this and kept it a secret until Amber was ready to share it with others,” she continued.

“I’m just grateful that their spirits were lifted,” she said. “It’s been a little difficult there lately – because she just wanted to come through and throw that wrench our way – but I could tell her, like most people [who] When someone has cancer, this is what happens.’

Laign completed her radiation treatment in July 2022.

In January, Roberts announced that she and Laign would marry in 2023, a year after her partner’s breast cancer diagnosis.

She made the surprise announcement on GMA while interviewing author Gabby Bernstein about her book “Super Attractor: Methods for Manifesting a Life Beyond Your Wildest Dreams.”

Bernstein shared techniques for setting intentions in 2023 when she asked Roberts what she would say “yes” to this year.

The nervous journalist admitted she hesitated to answer because she “hadn’t said it out loud yet”.

“I say yes to marriage.” “We’re getting married this year,” she finally announced. “It’s something we’ve talked about, but we’ve been putting it off. “She got sick, and that’s a yes to this and that next chapter.”

Roberts seemed to surprise everyone, including herself, when she revealed her plans to tie the knot this year.
