Greg Lynn has reportedly spoken to himself about the deaths of Carol Clay and Russell Hill

Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn was allegedly caught on tape talking to himself about the deaths of elderly campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay – before being accused of their murders.
In court documents released Tuesday afternoon, prosecutors revealed homicide detectives investigated Lynn for about a year before finally arresting him in November 2021.
“Investigators identified the defendant as having conversations with himself at various locations, at his home address and while camping,” the court documents said.
“It is alleged that the defendant at times referred to the deaths of Hill and Clay.”

Lynn took notes behind protective glass in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday
Lynn, 56, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with the murders of Mr Hill, 74, and Ms Clay, 73.
Elderly camper Ms Clay was allegedly shot through the head and killed when her secret lover Mr Hill tried to take a gun from Lynn, the court heard.
At the time of his arrest, Lynn was employed as a senior check captain pilot by Jetstar and had worked in the airline industry for more than 30 years, documents say.
The court heard Lynn had been a gun enthusiast when he ventured into the wild in March 2020.
“The defendant was an avid amateur marksman and firearms enthusiast who was authorized to possess nine different firearms, including pistols, long-barrelled medium-range rifles and a shotgun,” the prosecutors’ summary said.
Police allege Lynn searched the dead campers’ wallets, which were partially opened and strewn in the footwells of Mr Hill’s vehicle.
“A closer investigation revealed that credit/debit cards were missing. It was also confirmed that Hill and Clay’s mobile phones were not in the vehicle,” the court heard.
Police believe Lynn then took Mr Hill’s beloved DJI drone and the keys to his Landcruiser before leaving the scene. The drone was never recovered.
Lynn continues to deny murdering the couple while they were camping in Wonnangatta Valley in March 2020.
According to the synopsis, investigators claim Lynn got into an argument with the campers before killing both of them.
“The circumstances of their deaths and the defendant’s conduct thereafter are consistent with the defendant’s intent being to inflict death on each of them, or at least inflict genuinely serious injury on them,” the summary said.

It is the first time details have emerged about how police claim the killings took place.
The badly burned remains of the elderly couple were found by investigators from the Victoria Police Missing Persons Squad on November 30, 2021 – just days after Lynn was arrested.
It remains unclear how police allege Mr Hill was murdered by Lynn.
The court heard Lynn worked to cover up his alleged crimes by placing camping items, including a BBQ gas cylinder belonging to the couple, in their tent before lighting it.
“This is said to have been done to cover up his crimes. He dismantled his own camp and fled with the bodies of Hill and Clay,” the court heard.
Police allege Lynn dumped the couple’s bodies in the bush but returned in May and November “to take action to try to destroy the remains… including setting the remains of their bodies on fire.”
In December of that year – seven months after the couple went missing – police obtained search warrants to begin undercover surveillance of Lynn’s vehicle.
He would not be arrested until almost a year later.
Lynn’s attorney, Dermot Dann, QC, told Coroner Mark Mr Gellatly that Mr Hill had stolen his client’s shotgun.
“The two wrestled for the gun and caused an accidental discharge … which hit Ms. Clay in the head while she was on the near side of Hill’s vehicle,” Mr. Dann said.
“Yes,” replied Mr Gellatly. “That’s a possible explanation at this point.”
The court heard that traces of Ms Clay’s blood, confirmed by DNA analysis, had been found on Mr Hill’s Toyota Landcruiser, however many suspected traces had been destroyed by fire.
On Monday, the court heard that the elderly couple had visited a remote wilderness cemetery and broadcast a drone to other campers.
The case continues.
