Group of women with pepper spray and hit rideshare in NYC after video shows him refusing to stop

A woman was filmed pepper spraying a passenger in July after she asked him to let her and her friends out of the vehicle.

New York police say the incident happened just before 5 a.m. on July 8 in the Bronx, after the 23-year-old driver told the women they had put too many people in the car and they needed another ride stop.

But surveillance video shows the driver continued to speed through the neighborhood as the women begged him to let them out and stop the car before they got physical.

Video released by the New York City Police Department on Tuesday shows at least one woman sitting on the passenger side and telling the driver to “open the door.”

Soon the other three women begin relentlessly begging the driver to “stop the car” and appear to be begging the man as he continues to speed through the neighborhood.

“Stop the car, stop the damn car,” says one of the women, but he continues to drive past cars while one of them begs, “Stop the car, you idiot.”

Another woman grabs the passenger seat headrest as the driver drives on, prompting one of the passengers to say she would report the incident to the unspecified rideshare company.

At one point, the woman behind the passenger tells the driver, “Yo, I’m about to spray,” before apparently doing just that.

Finally, one of the passengers says to her friends: ‘Everybody get off, everybody get off.’

The woman behind the passenger seat then sprays the driver again.

Police say when the driver finally pulled up at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and East 158th Street in the Bronx around 4:55 a.m., one of the women off-camera punched him.

They then allegedly stole the driver’s cell phone before driving off.

DailyMail.com has now reached out to Uber and Lyft officials for more information about the incident.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to search for the four women involved in the altercation and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS. All calls are treated confidentially.

The video comes just weeks after another taxi driver was brutally beaten by a group of teenage girls after they jumped out of his cab without paying.

Horrifying footage of the attack showed Kutin Gyimah, 52, being attacked by five passengers who investigators say refused to pay their fare and attempted to rob the man on August 13.

It shows how each of the five suspects appeared to take turns beating the man who was powerful in defending himself.

Once Gyimah even raised his arms to protect himself from the brutal Ambush in Far Rockaway as the group continued their attack.

When Gyimah was able to get to his feet, one of the men hit him on the head, knocking him to the ground.

He then fell backwards and hit his head on the ground as the five suspects were filmed strolling away from the scene, smiling to themselves.

The victim suffered serious head injuries in the violent exchange and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Two teenage girls turned themselves in to authorities last week over the beating and have been charged with gang assault and stealing services.

Neither girl, aged 13 and 15, was named because they are minors, but authorities say a third girl, believed to be 16, is still at large.

Police allege the girls helped two men, Austin Amos, 20, and Nickolas Porter, 20, beat up Gyimah after they jumped out of his taxi without paying.

Amos and Porter were charged with the murder, gang assault and theft. Amos was also charged with manslaughter.

The two men also turned themselves in in the 101st Precinct last week after the NYPD released a request for information.

Amos has been arrested on six counts including robbery, criminal mischief, criminal contempt and sexual misconduct.

Meanwhile, only in the Big Apple is crime escalating — with overall crime up more than 35 percent from the same time last year.

The spike is being driven by a nearly 40 percent jump in the number of robberies, with more than 11,000 reported so far in 2022, compared to just about 8,000 reported at the same time last year.

Attacks such as those against the taxi drivers are also up nearly 19 percent, with over 17,200 cases reported so far this year.

And rape cases are up nearly 9 percent.
