Shameless looters leave a pub without drinking after allegedly stealing its entire stash and dumping it in floods of “canal water and dead animals”.

  • Owners of flood-ravaged pub claim thieves broke in and stole alcohol
  • They will destroy the pub’s entire liquor supply for the safety of the community
  • Police have charged six men with aggravated burglary offenses involving burglary
  • Outback towns in Washington’s Kimberley region have been devastated by flooding

The owners of a popular outback pub devastated by flood waters have been forced to destroy their entire liquor stocks after allegedly shameless looters broke in.

The Historic Crossing Inn in the Kimberley region of Western Australia admonished the thieves in a scathing Facebook post on Sunday.

Fitzroy Crossing Police have charged six men – four adults and two youths – with counts of aggravated burglary after alcohol was stolen from the pub on Wednesday.

“Firstly to the (alleged) looters who have broken in to get alcohol over the last few days – shame on you guys,” the pub wrote alongside a photo of dozens of alcohol cans submerged in mud.

“We would like to commend the police here in Fitzroy who, despite repeated requests, have reacted quickly at the moment and have already identified a number of suspects.

“Secondly, FYI – the (allegedly) stolen alcohol was submerged in floodwater (including sewage, deceased animals, etc.) which we don’t think would be pleasant drinking?!

‘After properly assessing the damage today, we have finally made the decision to destroy ALL alcohol held on site.’

The owners of the rural pub posted a photo of dozens of liquor cans in a muddy puddle and said it was only a “small amount” of what had been destroyed.

“This decision was made with the safety of the community in mind,” they said.

“We regret to announce that the Crossing Inn will be closed for months while we plan for the future.

“We hope everyone is safe and look forward to welcoming you back at some point.”

The four adults charged with the burglary are due to appear in court on January 24.

The alleged slump comes amid catastrophic rainfall in the Kimberley region, with towns like Fitzroy Crossing experiencing the worst flooding in history.

Former Tropical Cyclone Ellie brought endless rains that pushed the Fitzroy River to its highest level on record, causing houses to flood, roads to be turned into rivers and residents being forced to use boats to get around.

Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner Darren Klemm said last week the region was facing a flood event that occurs “once in 100 years”.

Rain from Cyclone Ellie has fallen between 200mm and 600mm since December and is expected to deliver more widespread heavy falls in the week.

Cleanup efforts have begun in regional towns, with SES clearing branches from streets and residents repairing their homes and businesses.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is due to visit the Kimberley region on Monday, where he is expected to announce a joint disaster relief package after relief was granted to communities in the Northern Territory.
