Hit-and-run in Hawthorn: Nine-year-old injured and driver arrested after fleeing the scene of the accident

A child was injured in a hit-and-run collision between two cars.

The driver and the nine-year-old were traveling in a BMW X5 SUV on Auburn Road in Hawthorn, Melbourne’s east, shortly after 7am on Wednesday.

A man driving a Volkswagen Oroton then allegedly collided with the BMW, causing it to flip onto its side as a result of the impact.

After the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen is said to have fled the scene on foot.
