Holly Willoughby’s Freeze The Fear With Wim Hoff’s “Future in doubt, second series put on hold”

Freeze The Fear With Wim Hoff has reportedly been put on hold as the show’s future is up in the air.

The BBC show, hosted by Holly Willoughby, 41, and Lee Mack, 53, saw eight celebrities embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure under the training of extreme athlete Wim Hof, 62.

But the future of the show is in doubt after it was reported that the second season was not being worked on.

In the series, Holly returned to the BBC after almost a decade and even took time off from This Morning to film in January 2022.

A source told The Sun: “Since 2004, Holly has worked almost exclusively for ITV as one of the channel’s most valuable presenters.

“So it was a big thing in the industry that she switched to the BBC and showed that she really believed Freeze the Fear was going to be a huge hit. But it looks like a second series hasn’t been worked on yet.

“This time last year the crew had been in pre-production for months and shooting was just two weeks away. Never say never, but it looks like no decision has been made about the show’s future.’

MailOnline has reached out to the BBC for comment.

The show revolved around Wim, also known as The Iceman, taking the VIPs through a series of challenges aimed at testing their physical and mental limits.

The first series featured the likes of Strictly Come Dancing pro Dianne Buswell, 32, actress Tamzin Outhwaite, 51, and former gymnast Gabby Logan, 48.

Each week, they took on grueling challenges that grew more daring as the series progressed.

With Wim’s encouragement, the celebrities learned to reap the rewards of cold water therapy and faced a unique test of their mental toughness.

Wim has dedicated his life to showing others that they can achieve things they thought were impossible.

He has previously used special techniques to control his mind and body while running a barefoot half marathon over the Arctic Circle, dodging himself in ice for 1 hour and 52 minutes and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania wearing only shorts and shoes.

“There’s a natural power in the cold,” he says. “When we embrace it, the magic happens.”

“This isn’t about being tough,” says Hof. “It’s about taking possession of the power of your own mind.”

But while viewers were impressed with the Hardman, many failed to see the point of the show. Some even jokingly asked if there was a trick to painting cold in a positive light when heating bills are skyrocketing.

One tweeted, “Thought I’d learn about Wim Hoff and cold therapy and not watch millionaires with problems #FreezeTheFear.”

Another wrote: “#freezethefear look how wonderful it is to be cold!!! Is this a government sponsored information show to get us to turn off the central heating?’

A third wrote: “Very disappointed with #FreezeTheFear – Rather than delving deeper into breathing techniques, physiological effects and balancing the mind.

“The show was just more beige light entertainment with a few gimmicks thrown in. The concept was devalued.”

Several posters were on board with the concept but said it would have worked better if “real people” instead of celebrities had the opportunity.

“I’d rather watch normal people surviving cancer, recovering addicts, or people who really need to change their perspective on life than those being paid (probably a small fortune) to raise their profile,” one wrote.

However, others defended the show, saying it was just a bit of much-needed escapism.

One tweeted: “Absolutely brilliant but crazy. Jump into the icy water and abseil with views of the cliffs. Eek.’

A second chimed in: “#FreezeTheFear was the boss tonight. I would like to do all of that. But I was happy to sit at home and watch toast and hot chocolate with me. #wimhof.’
