Hundreds of Jair Bolsonaro supporters storm Brazil’s Congress building

Thousands of Bolsonaro supporters are invading Brazil’s Congress in Brasilia – after refusing to accept new President Lula’s victory in the “stolen” election – copying the Trump-inspired Jan. 6 invasion of the US Capitol 2021
- An estimated 3,000 people stormed the Brazilian Congress on Sunday in protest
- They believe President Lula’s victory was stolen from right-wing Bolsonaro
- His supporters are demanding that the military intervene in the dispute
Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have stormed the National Congress building in Brasilia – in a similar move to the January 6 invasion of Trump voters.
The demonstrators entered the building and called on the military to overthrow current President Luiz Inacio.
Veteran leftist Inacio has been in power for just a week after being inaugurated a week ago, as supporters of the former president claim the election was stolen.
Footage from the scenes bears an uncanny resemblance to those that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 after former President Trump claimed the election was stolen.

It comes after da Silva, known as Lula, defeated far-right Bolsonaro in October’s election.
President da Silva is currently on an official state tour in São Paulo after saying in his inaugural address that he would rebuild a country in “terrible ruins”.
Other protesters gathered in front of the Presidential Palace and the Supreme Court, although it was not immediately clear if they had managed to break into the buildings.
Bolsonaro supporters have been protesting Lula’s election victory since October 30.
They blocked roads, set fire to vehicles and gathered in front of military buildings to call on the armed forces to intervene in the election
Local media has estimated that 3,000 people are involved in the protests – wearing yellow and green T-shirts and holding Brazilian flags.

Protesters have scaled a ramp providing access to the roof of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate buildings.

Those who broke into the building are also accused of attacking police vehicles that had secured the building and protective barriers.
Bolsonaro left Brazil for Florida 48 hours before his mandate expired – repeatedly questioning the credibility of the country’s e-voting system without evidence.
