Ilkay Gündogan presents Soccer AM’s Tubes with a cake while the presenter posts an emotional message on Instagram

“Tubes… You’re a legend!”: Manchester City’s Ilkay Gündogan presents Soccer AM presenter Tubes with a cake… as the presenter posts an emotional message on Instagram ahead of the final episode of the iconic football show on Saturday

Soccer AM presenter Tubes posted an emotional message on his Instagram after Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan presented him with a cake calling him a “legend”.

Mail Sport announced earlier this month that the legendary football show will air its final episode on Saturday after almost 30 years of airing.

Tubes, whose real name is Peter Dale, was originally an assistant producer on the series but became known for his short, comical appearances, in which he performed a hilarious rap before interviewing guests with his guests “A question and a question-only segment”.

Having been a part of the show for many years, Tubes posted an emotional message on Instagram today after being presented with a cake by Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan at the club’s training ground.

The cake featured a picture of Tubes’ face and the caption read, “Tubes…You’re a Legend!”

The Sky Sports presenter was then photographed cutting up the sweet treat at City’s training ground.

He captioned the post, “The last interview ever done with Soccer AM,” before adding a “crying face” emoji to the caption.

This is because Sky Sports has made several cuts this year. Mail Sport previously reported that the company’s football reporters had been instructed to reapply for their jobs.

Announcements that Soccer AM would end at the end of the season were met with widespread disapproval from staff, who were reportedly “angry” at the decision.

Presenters John “Fenners” Fendley and Jimmy Bullard poked fun at the ongoing uncertainty about the programme’s future and skitd an “elephant in the room” amid the general unrest on Sky.

The channel is also expected to lose legendary Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling, who is retiring after nearly 30 years with the sports channel.

But as Soccer AM drew to a close this week, fans gave Tubes their thanks and said, “I’ll miss you.”

Another wrote: “End of an era,” while one user said: “Bow.”

“Saturdays will never be the same again,” commented another.

Earlier today the Premier League announced a last-minute change to the schedule for this weekend’s finals. Sky Sports will now show Aston Villa’s game against Brighton on Sunday.

That game could secure Villa a place in their first European competition in a long time as Unai Emery’s side currently sit seventh in the league.

A win this weekend would see them qualify for the Europa Conference League, with Tottenham and Brentford also in position to qualify.
