“I got the messages at 2pm on a Saturday while I was at a winery and I was like, ‘I love this message.’

Amy said the most effective way to get your message across is to say, “I’m so and so. That’s what I do That’s what I’m passionate about and that’s what excites me about the open role you have. Are you the right contact person for me? Could you connect me?’

When she receives outstanding news, she turns to the head of human resources and says, “Hey, LinkedIn sent me the message. I forwarded it to you. Have you checked in with them yet?’

“People got jobs that way. So go ahead. Keep cool DMing,” she advised. “You just don’t know, it might work.”

“I got 200 applicants for a role before. Everyone who found out I’m the hiring manager and DMed me reviewed their application,” one person shared.

However, the advice appeared to be hit or miss. Some commenters claimed it never worked for them, while other HR pros thought it was a departure.
