Interview with Meghan Markle: Reaction from global newspapers and TV channels

The world is reacting to Meghan Markle’s latest ‘truth bombs’ as she is dubbed a ‘t*sser’ in Australia, a ‘stubborn princess’ in the US and accused of overshadowing the Diana anniversary in Germany

Publications around the world have reacted to Meghan Markle’s latest bombshell interview, with one American publication calling her a “stubborn princess”.

Others in Germany suggested the Duchess of Sussex is overshadowing the 25th anniversary of Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana’s death tomorrow.

A TV station in Australia said Meghan was “absolutely insane” and that she “couldn’t even stand to sit through the whole article” published in The Cut yesterday.

A TV station in France said the Sussexes “continue to monetize the royal family’s image”, while an Italian publication said Meghan “poses like a real diva”.

In the new 6,000-word interview, Meghan said that she and Harry “disrupt the dynamics of the hierarchy” “just by their existence.”

It also comes after Meghan also voiced veiled criticism of royal aides on her new Spotify podcast, which was released last week, as she shared she has been forced to continue a royal tour of South Africa albeit in her son Archie’s room a fire broke out.

Here is some of the global reaction to the article published in the last 24 hours:

NEW YORK POST-MAUREEN CALLAHAN

‘Toddler and tiara: Meghan Markle still throws tantrums at the royal family’

  • “Forget the people’s princess – now we have the stubborn princess, one whose crown of favor is perpetual victimhood. She’s had a global platform for the past three years, but all she does with it is complain that she’s been censored, silenced, and banned. Meghan Markle has been a public sore thumb longer than she’s been a working duchess. It is high time for a new topic of conversation.”
  • “I have to admit her one accomplishment here: Just when you think Meghan Markle can’t get any more delusional, she surpasses herself. Her self-esteem is in direct contrast to her dwindling importance.”

WASHINGTON POST-ALYSSA ROSENBERG

“To thrive in the media, Meghan Markle must move beyond royal trauma”

  • “Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, have fled one toxic dynamic in the UK, only to end up here in another. The United States may be more psychologically open and socially progressive than the waning empire, but the more the two talk about what they suffered in England, the more it seems Americans want to hear everything from them. In truth, the only way for the Sussexes to truly build a new life and have a greater impact on the causes they hold dear is to stop making themselves the center of the story.”

BILD (GERMANY) – GESA SCHWANKE

“So shamelessly Meghan copies the heart princess”

  • They lost their beloved mother 25 years ago, but on Lady Di’s (36) wedding day, Prince William (40) and Prince Harry (37) are probably not united on Wednesday.
  • The brothers’ separation seems irretrievable – fueled by tensions between William and his sister-in-law Meghan (41). More precisely: her shameless attempts to exploit the myth of Diana for her career…
  • “Meghan copies Di’s style, facial expressions, gestures – and even her charity generosity!”

STUTTGARTER NEWS (GERMANY)

“25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death: is Duchess Meghan overshadowing the day of remembrance?”

  • On August 29, two days before the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death (1961-1997), a new interview with daughter-in-law Duchess Meghan (41) appeared in a New York magazine. Some royal insiders fear she could now overshadow the memorial day for her husband Prince Harry’s mother, 37.’

7 NEWS (AUSTRALIA) – NATALIE BARR

‘Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr calls Meghan Markle a ‘total t*****r’ in extraordinary spray’

  • “I couldn’t even bear to read through the whole article. I think an Aussie would say, ‘She’s just full of it’.
  • ‘She is with ****r. She’s a total t****r. That’s how we would describe them. I just can’t… The way she talks.’

MARIE CLAIRE (SPAIN) – ALBERTO ARDILA

“Meghan Markle Fires the Cannon from Lady Di’s Hands: Corporate Racism and a Ruthless Golden Cage”

  • “Meghan Markle is taking another firm step forward. A week after she first uploaded a preview of her official podcast, Prince Harry’s wife made the cover of American magazine The Cut. An in-depth interview with a character who has been in the eye of the hurricane for years, especially after his departure from the royal family. Coincidence or not, the interview launches on the same day as the 25th anniversary of the tragic accident that ended the life of Diana of Wales, to whom she has occasionally been compared for her time at The Firm.

CORRIERE DELLA SERA (ITALY) – FEDERICA BANDIRALI

‘Meghan Markle was crowned Duchess by US magazine The Cut: the challenge for her sister-in-law Kate’

  • “The photos show Meghan posing like a true diva: far removed from the true style (and life) that she herself has said she wants to break away from. Meghan Markle’s style follows that of her sister-in-law Kate Middleton in the series of shots taken by Paolo Roversi for the Duchess of Cambridge’s 40th birthday.”

‘It takes a lot of effort to forgive’: Meghan Markle is open about her relationship with the royal family

  • “It’s hard not to see a slight reproach towards him [Harry’s] family, if not a bitterness.’
  • “At the end of this interview, Archie and Lilibet’s mother questions the notion of forgiveness. Without clearly revealing whether or not she has forgiven her beautiful family.”
  • “She still seems to be revealing things, a heavy weight on her heart just waiting to come out.”

BFM TV (FRANCE)

“Red line – Harry and Meghan continue to monetize the image of the royal family”

  • “On Monday 29 August at 8.45pm BFMTV will broadcast a new Ligne Rouge documentary series, ‘William and Harry, the Enemy Brothers’, dedicated to the world’s most famous princes who tear each other apart today. 25 years after Diana’s death, the series reveals the real reasons for this break, the big and small secrets of a fratricidal struggle that is now endangering one of Europe’s oldest monarchies. In this excerpt, behind the scenes, the finances of the couple Harry and Meghan are heavily criticized by public opinion. The duo signed a $100,000,000 deal with Netflix in exchange for a series about their lives.”
