Warner Bros recently filed a trademark to use Big Chungus in video games – so he’s going to MultiVersus?
A new trademark was filed by Warner Bros on August 26, 2022 to use the memen-created Big Chungus in video games, films, clothing, toys and more. The move has raised hopes that the chunky character could make a move to MultiVersus in the future and join the game’s broad roster of Warner Bros characters.
And Warner Bros isn’t above bringing meme-spun versions of their characters into MultiVersus. The Super Saiyan-inspired version of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, which gained popularity thanks to an internet meme, is part of Shaggy’s fighting game skills.
As for the origins of Big Chungus, the image comes from an old Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes episode from 1941, in which Bugs Bunny puffs himself up to mock regular rival Elmer Fudd. The image gained popularity after an exaggerated version was photoshopped and made the rounds on Reddit. The word “Chungus” was coined by video game journalist Jim Sterling a few years before the meme appeared.
Whether or not Big Chungus will find his way into MultiVersus remains to be seen. Warner Bros has yet to confirm the character’s addition to the roster. At least it’s certainly a possibility.
