Jamie Carragher pokes fun at himself after claiming Kevin De Bruyne had a night off

‘What IDIOT commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?!: Jamie Carragher pokes fun at himself after claiming the Man City star had a night off against Chelsea – before throwing in a brilliant cross for Nathan Ake – who hit the post

Jamie Carragher poked fun at comments after his assessment of Kevin De Bruyne’s performance against Chelsea came back to haunt him.

In Thursday night’s game at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City struggled to get going in the first half, with De Bruyne struggling to influence the game from midfield.

When De Bruyne tried to take a corner early in the second half, Carragher claimed: “Today wasn’t his day”.

However, he looked goofy almost immediately as De Bruyne whipped in an inviting cross that Nathan Ake headed to the post.

Carragher saw the funny side of his slip and poked fun at himself, joking, “What idiot commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?!”

De Bruyne came into play more and more as the game progressed and was involved in the winning goal.

The Belgian playmaker fitted the ball perfectly into Jack Grealish’s run, who fired the ball in for Riyad Mahrez from close range.

City came under pressure in the closing stages but held their ground to reduce the gap to leaders Arsenal to five points.

After a disappointing World Cup that saw Belgium eliminated in the group stage, De Bruyne has almost given his best performance since returning to City.

He recorded two assists in his side’s win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and played every minute in City’s three league games, from which they took seven points to stay within Arsenal’s reach.
