The husband of a woman who tragically died in a freak accident has spoken of his heartbreak after her car was crushed by a tree.

Jasmyne Lloyd, 20, was killed along with her 80-year-old passenger after a large tree fell on their Volkswagen as they drove along Old Gympie Road in the Glass House Mountains on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Queensland Police were called to the remote stretch of road around 12.20pm on Saturday following reports of a significant road accident.

Mr Lloyd took to Facebook on Sunday to reveal that he and Jasmyne were a day away from celebrating their four-month wedding anniversary when she was tragically killed.

“No words can describe my heartbreak,” he said.

“She said yes,” he captioned the photo, with Jasmyne’s diamond ring front and center of the image.

The emergency services had to loosen the roof of the vehicle because it had collapsed so badly.

A spokesman for the Queensland Police Service told the Sunshine Coast Daily that the tree was dying and was rotting everywhere.

“It’s incredibly unfortunate. The tree collapsed as they drove past,” the officer said.

Police are investigating whether the poor condition of the tree or the action of an animal caused it to fall.

“Unfortunately when that vehicle went under – a few seconds either way the vehicle would have been clear – it hit the vehicle and then the vehicle went off the road,” Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Stream said.

About 70 km north of Brisbane, the Glass House Mountains and National Park are known for their panoramic views and hiking trails.

The terrain includes rocky peaks, steep hillsides, gorges, swampy plains and a variety of wildlife.
