Jason Knauf has denied claims he testified against Meghan at the behest of Prince William

The former Sussexes’ PR chief has dismissed claims that he testified against Meghan in court “with the authority” of Prince William.
Jason Knauf had worked as joint communications director for Harry and Meghan and the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
He then made serious allegations about Meghan’s alleged bullying of junior staff before resigning and eventually becoming chief executive of William and Kate’s Royal Foundation, the charitable arm of their official operations. He left that role last year.
Much of the final episode of the Netflix documentary series is devoted to Meghan’s decision to take The Mail on Sunday, the Daily Mail’s sister newspaper, to the Supreme Court over the decision to publish a letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle would have .

During the newspaper’s appeal against summary judgment in the case, which the Duchess was awarded, new evidence came to light from Mr Knauf regarding Meghan’s previous claim in court documents that she did not know if and to what extent her communications team also worked with the writers of Finding Freedom, a flattering biography about her and Harry.
He disclosed that he had provided information to the authors “to the best of their knowledge” and had emails to prove it.
Meghan was forced to apologize to the court – but said she had no intention of misleading it and simply “didn’t remember” the relevant exchange at the time.
The appeals court judge, who dismissed the newspaper’s appeal, described it as “at best, an unfortunate memory lapse on her part.”
In the Netflix documentary, Meghan’s lawyer Jenny Afia goes as far as to claim William gave Mr Knauf his authority to come forward in the case, saying: “A senior member of the Duke of Cambridge’s team has come forward to do so give testimony that was not required. And unfortunately, he simply could not have done that without the authority of his bosses.

Extraordinarily, Harry and Meghan will also be filmed by the crew at a friend’s flat in November 2021, just as they discover Mr Knauf’s evidence has been disclosed.
Meghan throws up her hands in frustration as she walks around and says: “How do we deal with this? … How on earth? …Like…I…it’s your brother.” Harry replies, ‘Yes.’ Meghan continues angrily: “It’s your brother, I won’t say anything about your brother but it’s so obvious. It’s like…’
Harry interjects, “It’s even more important that they try to cover it up.
“That’s why I live in another country now. Because all communication teams try to outdo each other. But that is the contract.”
The camera crew were even allowed to film the couple in the early hours of the morning while they awaited the outcome of the appeals process and then successfully called their friends.

Miss Afia goes on to claim that Mr Knauf’s testimony “had no legal relevance to the case” but was submitted because “the impact on Meghan’s reputation was potentially damaging”. But a representative for Mr Knauf made it clear yesterday that he had been an unwilling participant in the case after being approached by both parties to testify and only agreeing to make a statement in court seeking legal advice.
They said: “These claims are completely false. Mr Knauf was asked by both the Duchess of Sussex and Associated Newspapers to provide evidence.
“He was advised by a lawyer that evidence in his possession might be relevant and he then presented it directly to the court, remaining neutral in the proceedings.”
Meghan’s lawyer responded to the statement, saying they had “disputed” that claim, adding: “Mr Knauf was not asked by the Duchess of her team to give evidence. Nor do their lawyers believe Mr Knauf remained “neutral” by providing testimony relied on by Associated Newspapers while he worked for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Mr Knauf then doubled down, with his representative saying: “The Duchess of Sussex and Jenny Afia have written to Mr Knauf and asked him to help prepare their legal case.”
