The broadcaster said 149 passengers made reservations for the flight.
NHK said police received information about the threat and the forced landing prompted Chubu Airport to temporarily suspend takeoffs and landings.
Jetstar Airways has interests in sister airlines Jetstar Asia Airways and Jetstar Japan, jointly owned by Qantas, Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century Corporation.
A Jetstar spokesman said: “A Jetstar Japan flight from Tokyo (Narita) to Fukuoka was diverted to Chubu Airport and normally landed at 7:41 am local time today following a potential security incident.
“As a precaution, the passengers got out via emergency slides. We know that this would have been distressing for passengers and we thank them for their cooperation.
“Our teams are supporting them and are working to get them off the ground as quickly as possible. Jetstar Japan is also working closely with Chubu Airport and local authorities to investigate the situation.’
