Sebastian Haller has announced his incredible return to training at Borussia Dortmund – just six months after being diagnosed with a testicular tumour.

The striker received the devastating news in July, shortly after joining the German club for £29million on a four-year deal and requiring chemotherapy to treat the cancer – and the 28-year-old ended up having two surgeries as part of his treatment.

He has now sent a message to fans on social media to thank them for all their support during this difficult time and announced that he is back at the club’s training center where he looks forward to his belated debut in the upcoming weeks will prepare.

“Hi guys, I’m finally back,” the ex-West Ham striker said in a clip on Twitter.

“It wasn’t that easy, but with your support it went better and easier. I’m just looking forward to seeing you in the stadium for a few wins.”

The German giants play their first game since the World Cup against Augsburg on January 22, giving Haller around three weeks to recover in time for the game.

Haller joined Dortmund from Ajax, where he had excelled in two seasons in Amsterdam – scoring 47 goals in 66 games, earning him a big move to the Bundesliga.

However, he was soon hit with the breaking news that he had a testicular tumor as he revealed how he and his family were struggling with the diagnosis.

“My wife was in shock, but she could handle it. But… my mom… it wasn’t the same, because moms are moms,” Haller said in an interview with ESPN.

“I called my brothers and sisters to make sure they were there for her so she didn’t feel alone. I did this.’

Speaking to UEFA last month, he revealed he has “spent five straight days in the hospital where I am hooked up 24/7” and is unable to get out of bed while the treatment is injected. He then has a two-week rest period.

“It’s a phase and I have to do it four times. Four phases of chemotherapy, each lasting about three weeks,” he added.

“After that, depending on how my cancer progresses and how it spreads, I may need to have surgery.

“A lot of people ask me when I’ll be back, but there’s a lot to consider, so it’s difficult to give them a clear answer.”
