Karim Benzema WILL NOT play for France in World Cup final, Didier Deschamps confirms
Karim Benzema will NOT play for France in the World Cup final, confirms Didier Deschamps, who insists he will ‘focus on my squad of 24’ – and says that despite the virus outbreak ahead of the showdown in Argentina, the squad is ‘calm and stays focused”.
Didier Deschamps has ruled out Karim Benzema from a notable comeback in France’s squad for Sunday’s World Cup final.
The Ballon d’Or winner’s World Cup journey collapsed after suffering a hamstring injury in training.
Benzema’s return to training for Real Madrid has fueled prospects for an incredible comeback for the French striker.

Karim Benzema is said to be furious at his treatment by France coach Didier Deschamps
But at a press conference in Doha ahead of France’s World Cup final against Argentina tomorrow, Deschamps said: “Some players were injured and Karim Benzema is one of them and Lucas Hernandez was injured in the first game.
“As of this point I have 24 players in my squad and they are available to me, so I don’t think it’s fair to those players to ask for players who aren’t here.
“It’s not up to me to decide who comes to watch the game, former players or injured players, I focus on my squad and the players that are available to me.
“We lost three Christopher Nkunku, Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez and I lost them even though they were in the squad from the start.
“So now I’m concentrating on my squad of 24 and they will be available to me tomorrow.”
Deschamps looked frustrated when asked by reporters this week about Benzema’s return.

France coach Didier Deschamps sighed when first asked if Karim Benzema could feature in the World Cup final
On Thursday, when asked about the Real Madrid star’s return, he sighed, telling reporters: “I don’t want to answer that.”
It emerged the next day that Benzema was reportedly furious with the France manager.
Part of his frustration with Deschamps was that he had reportedly not left camp of his own free will and was “sent out” by the manager.
Rumors of a return have been circulating as Benzema is still in the squad and would be world champions if France retained their 2018 trophy.
But the France striker hit back last night when he appeared to snub Les Bleus in an Instagram post.
On Instagram, he posted a very unimpressed selfie with the caption, “I’m not interested.”
The background noise comes as France gear up for a grand final with Argentina as they attempt to claim their third World Cup title.
But Deschamps has to deal with a virus that has broken out in the France squad.
Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano missed the semi-final win over Morocco through illness before Raphael Varane, Ibrahima Konate and Kingsley Coman were unable to train on Friday.
Speaking of the virus, Deschamps said: “We’re trying to manage this as best we can and staying calm and focused.
We do our best to accommodate and adapt and live with it without going too far but doing what is necessary. We would have preferred not to face it, but we’re handling it as best we can.’
