Katherine Gillies Moon Muse: Sydney woman quits corporate life for astrology

A Sydney woman who left the business world to become a full-time astrologer is now letting the moon rule her life instead of an alarm clock.
Katherine Gillies, 37, known as Moon Muse, has been practicing astrology as a hobby for 15 years but only recently turned it into a career.
The astrologer admits she’s gone from “not really” believing in astrology to understanding the concept and how it can be used as a life tool.
Katherine now even schedules her week according to her instructions and refuses to work Mondays because it’s “ruled by the moon.”

Katherine Gillies is a Sydney-based astrologer who left the business world to pursue her passion for astrology. She now works as a full-time astrologer under the name Moon Muse and lives her life following her intuition and letting astrology guide her

Katherine now creates online astrology content, delivers readings, hosts events and recently published a daily astrology podcast with LiSTNR
Katherine, who lives in Newcastle with her partner, admits she’s had a “rather tortuous” life experience as she didn’t know what she wanted to do after graduating from Sydney University.
After traveling for some time, she worked in the fashion industry in New York for big names like Vogue before deciding to go to law school and work in the corporate sector.
“After law school I knew I wasn’t going to be a lawyer,” Katherine said, although she worked for a national law firm for years.
When “corporate life took hold” she realized it wasn’t for her and went on to earn an Energy Healing Diploma on the side.
After working as a digital content manager, she decided to give up her 9 to 5 and become a full-time astrologer.

Katherine had been part of the mystical world for years at this point, often reading tarot for friends and sharing astrological content online.
“No two days are the same,” she said of her life as a full-time astrologer, adding that she lets her intuition guide her.
Her days include reading, creating content, recording her podcast, and sometimes hosting events like lunar ceremonies.
She not only follows her intuition, but also lets astrology determine her everyday life.
“I don’t work on Mondays as they are ruled by the moon, so I let the creative juices flow,” she said, explaining that each day of the week is ruled by a different planet and therefore has a different energy.
“I didn’t really believe in it [astrology] when I was young,” admitted the astrologer.
She explained that learning about natal charts helped her understand the concept after it didn’t “resonate” with the typical chart.
Each person has a unique birth chart based on place, time and date of birth.
“Your natal chart is a screenshot of the moment you were born, it shows the potential of the soul,” she said.

Katherine is an intuitive astrologer, meaning she helps people interpret their astrology and answer life questions using their own intuition. Since 2018 she has also practiced life coaching.
She believes many people “dislike” astrology because they’re just used to reading horoscopes, but she says it can be used as a “tool for self-discovery.”
“Astrology is a wonderful tool for looking at a person’s soul plan or cosmic blueprint,” she said.
She doesn’t try to sway skeptics, just offers her advice for those who are interested.
Her favorite part of the job is “helping people fulfill their potential” and stepping into their “dream reality.”
“Everyone’s dream reality is different. It’s really about figuring out what people’s true reality is and what they desire,” she said.
The astrologer said she doesn’t have a part of her job she dislikes because she’s living her dream.
“It’s financially doable, but it’s a commitment, to be financially successful and have a profitable business you have to show up every day,” she said.
“When I say a lot of opportunities seem to magically present themselves,” she added, explaining that she’s balancing the line between going to get what she wants and having faith in the process.
Katherine’s new astrology podcast, It’s a Sign with LiSTNR, is a 90-second astrology snippet that runs Monday through Friday.
According to Katherine, the podcast “can help people demystify astrology,” charting lunar and planetary transits and explaining to listeners how these changes affect their daily lives.
“It provides a daily insight into what’s happening in the sky and how we can take small practical steps to be more in tune with the cosmic rhythm,” she said.
“By learning to align your week with the cosmos, you can tap into a rhythm and flow otherwise untapped. Astrological information, distilled and conveyed through simple practical tips, can have a profound impact on people’s lives.’
“We teach people that astrology is more than regular sun sign charts and that they themselves are incredibly unique, just like their birth chart. With a shift in consciousness [the listener] can take action to live their best, most focused life.’
